The Mariners acquired Doherty in a trade from the Wheeling Nailers in August of 2022. Tim is another University of Maine Alumnus, playing for the Black Bears from 2017-20, before spending his final collegiate season with Penn State. He was among Maine's leading scorers, finishing 2nd (to fellow Mariner Mitch Fossier) in scoring on the 2019-20 squad, posting 37 points in 34 games. Doherty turned pro at the end of 2020-21, splitting time with the Allen Americans and Wheeling - where he found much more success. He was fourth on the Nailers in scoring in 2021-22. He is not related to teammate Connor Doherty, but the two played together with the Boston Jr. Bruins USPHL program in 2013-14.
