Biography

Jake DeBrusk was drafted by the Boston Bruins 14th overall in the first round of the 2015 Entry Draft and was the second of three straight first round picks by Boston that season (Jakub Zboril and Zach Senyshyn). He is the son of Louie DeBrusk who played 401 NHL games for Edmonton, Tampa Bay, Phoenix and Chicago. DeBrusk spent a majority of his junior career with the Swift Current Broncos (with Colby Cave) before being traded to the Red Deer Rebels in 2016 where he helped the Rebels to the Memorial Cup Semifinals. His career high for points came in 2014-15 when he tallied 42-39-81 in 72 regular season games with the Broncos. He was also a part of the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in 2015. DeBrusk signed a 3-year entry level deal with Boston November 12, 2015 and made his P-Bruins debut on opening night of the 2016-17 season vs Albany, recording his first pro point. He scored his first pro goal October 28 at Utica. He had a 4-game goal streak December 18-27, tied for longest by a P-Bruin in 2016-17, and an 8-game point streak December 18 - January 7, the longest by a Bruin in 2016-17. He had 6+2=8 in that time. After 23 points in his first 44 games of 2016-17, he scored 26 in his final 30 games. DeBrusk finished his rookie season first among all P-Bruin rookies in scoring while finishing second overall on the team.
